Local Resident with Asperger’s visits our students

To mark World Autism Awareness day, on Tuesday 2nd April students met with a recently diagnosed 76 year old lady called Elizabeth who lives in Girton to discuss her experiences living with aspergers and how she feels receiving the diagnosis later in life. Elizabeth came in for a ‘tea and chat’ session with the students. She wanted to come in and find out how the students managed in a school environment and about growing up having autism. The students sat and drank their tea and chatted with Elizabeth for over an hour, sharing how the feel about different situations and what coping strategies they use. We are very proud of how far these youngsters have come, speaking to a stranger so openly about their feelings and if/how having autism affects their life.
