On Monday 29th October Ms Kirby and Ms Easton traveled to a hotel in Kensington to a very special award ceremony. Last summer one of our 6th form students, Lauren, was entered into “The Unique Arts Award” National competition and she was shortlisted for a prize. Lauren knew that she was one of the finalists but it wasn’t until they announced the winners that she found out quite how well she had done! Accompanied by her two sisters and mum Lauren, all guests and prize winners sat down to a 3 course dinner. Once everyone had finished eating the prize winners were called out.
We are very proud to announce that Lauren gained gold “1st prize” for her painting in the youth category; 16-21 year olds, taking home a big bag of art supplies and £80 of art vouchers. She was then awarded Bronze as one of the top three over all winners taking home another £500 of art vouchers and the school will shortly be receiving a cheque for £1000 to be spent in the art department.
Mrs Easton intends to use the funds to pay for an artist to visit Gretton in the summer term who will help the students to create a mini sculpture park in our grounds. These sculptures will be photographed and in turn entered into the ‘Unique Arts Award’ competition next year.
A huge well done to Lauren and congratulations from us all at Gretton!
